South Jersey Individuals Shine at Track MOC

South Jersey is always strong in boys’ and girls’ high school track and that was evident by the Meet of Champions results over the weekend at Northern Burlington High.

Five boys and four girls from the seven-county South Jersey area won individual championships in a meet that consists of all the top place winners in the state championship meets. In addition, Winslow Township captured the girls’ 1,600 meter relay.

Salem’s Jonathan Taylor successfully defended his title in the 100 meters, winning in a time of 10.74 seconds. Not bad for his second-best sports.

Taylor is among the top football players in the state and will attend the University of Wisconsin on a football scholarship. In the fall, he set a single-season state record by rushing for 2,815 yards. Taylor, who scored 35 touchdowns as a senior, helped lead Salem to the South Jersey Group I championship game, where the Rams fell to Paulsboro, 29-26.

Pennsauken’s Martin Booker won the 200 meters (21:57). Booker is among the state’s top sprinters, having finished fourth in the 100 meters. Like Taylor, he is also a football standout. A year ago, he placed second in the MOC 200 meters and third in the 100.

Moorestown’s Brandon Outlaw, a University of Virginia recruit, captured the 400 in a time of 47.05.

Delsea junior Khaliel Burnett captured the triple jump (48-9.5).

Holy Spirit senior Cade Antonucci was the winner of the javelin (220-11). It was the second consecutive MOC title in the javelin for Antonucci, who is an Auburn recruit.
That was truly a South Jersey dominated event as the top four finishers were from the area. Following Antonucci were Timber Creek’s Alexander Georgiou, Ocean City’s Steve Jernee and Middle Township’s Joshua Moore.

The headliner for South Jersey girls’ was Williamstown senior Bria Mack who successfully defended her title in the 100. A University of Florida recruit, Mack’s winning time was 11.77. South Jersey had four of the top six finishers with Winslow Township’s Shakira Dancy second, Woodrow Wilson’s Dennisha Page fourth and Sterling’s Aliya Harrison sixth.

Winslow’s Dancy completed an excellent day by successfully defending her title in the 200 meters (24.14) and helping the Eagles win the 1600 meter relay. The quartet also consisted of Janeya Hammond, Iyianna Williams and Flora Ahiarakwe. The winning time was 3:47.41, just ahead of Union Catholic (3:47.83).

In the closest race of the day, Kingsway’s Rachel Vick captured the 1,600, winning a photo finish over Elena DiMarcello of North Hunterdon. Both finished in a time of 4:52.69.

Camden’s Lenaami Morton, who is headed to Morgan State, won the 100 hurdles (13.84).
