Part II: South Jersey Games of the Week
Here are some of the top high school football games happening this weekend:
Holy Cross (4-2) at Cinnaminson (4-2), Friday, 7 pm.
Both teams will be competing in the upcoming playoffs, Holy Cross in Non-Public Group 2 and Cinnaminson in South Group 2. Holy Cross has won two in a row following a 43-22 win over New Egypt. Cinnaminson’s two losses have been to serious playoff contenders, Haddonfield in Group 2 and Willingboro in Group 1. The Pirates are coming off a 40-0 win over Bishop Eustace. Junior Shawn Ruffin has thrown for 568 yards and six TDs. Senior Rashad Raymond has rushed for 789 yards (5.6 avg.) and 11 TDs.

These are two teams that will be factors in the Group 3 playoff race. Burlington Township has yet to be truly tested, with the closest win a 23-8 triumph over defending South Jersey Group 3 champion. Senior Tyrese Ware continues to be a big-play threat at receiver for the Falcons. Allentown started off 3-0 but then lost 27-24 to Lenape and last week, 33-24 to Trenton.

Delsea (2-3) at Woodrow Wilson (6-0), Saturday, 12 pm.
Wilson overcame a scare by scoring a late-fourth quarter TD for an 18-16 comeback win over Shawnee. It was a game in which Shawnee opened a 14-0 lead, but Wilson came back on three Nick Kargman TD passes. Kargman, who has a chance to shatter the South Jersey passing record book, has thrown for 2,369 yards and 29 touchdowns. Now the Tigers face Delsea in a rematch of last year’s South Jersey Group 3 championship that the Crusaders won 29-28. In the regular season last year, Delsea easily defeated Wilson, 43-12. Now Wilson is the favorite. Delsea has struggled even though the Crusaders beat winless Camden Catholic, 54-0 last week. Still, Delsea is always seems to improve as the season goes on and the key will be the Crusaders pass defense

West Deptford suffered a 27-21 loss to Haddonfield last week. The Eagles showed even in defeat that they will be a serious South Jersey Group 2 contender. St. Joseph remains the top seeded team in Non-Public Group 2.

Can Gateway challenge Paulsboro in the WJFL Memoria Division? That is an interesting question for the Gators who are coming off a 40-0 win over Audubon when Matt Goetz threw two touchdown passes. Gateway’s hasn’t hit the heart of its schedule, although a 33-14 win over Florence was impressive. Glassboro had won its first three games, surpassing its win total from last year, but the Bulldogs suffered their first loss last week, 40-0, to Salem.
