Part I: South Jersey Games of the Week
Here are more top games in as the South Jersey football season continues this week:
Highland (6-0) at Burlington Twp. (6-0), Saturday, 1:30 pm.
It’s rare this late in the season to have two undefeated Top 10 teams facing each other. Highland is a major threat in South Group 4 while Burlington Township is a threat in Group 3. Burlington Township QB Danny Grozozski has completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 1,208 yards and 21 TDs. Senior Tyrese Ware has 17 receptions for 434 yards and seven TDs, while classmate Isaiah Pae has 24 receptions for 410 yards and nine TDs. The Falcons closes game has been a 22-8 win over fellow Group 3 contender Delsea. This will be a contrast in styles with Burlington Township having so much success in the air and Highland moving better on the ground. Highland sophomore Johnny Martin has rushed for 999 yards (6.6 avg.) and 11 TDs. Junior Kasim Randall-Dale has rushed for 257 yards (5.8 avg.) and two scores.

Williamstown (7-0) at Shawnee (2-4), Friday at 7 pm.
Despite its record, Shawnee should still qualify for the South Group 4 playoffs, regardless of how it does its final two games before the cutoff. The Renegades showed how strong they could be by playing toe to toe with Woodrow Wilson two games ago, before losing 18-14. Williamstown QB J.C. Collins has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 788 yards and six touchdowns. He has rushed for 483 yards (7.2 avg.) and eight TDs. Junior David Williams has 28 tackles and a team-high four sacks. According to Gridironnewjersey.com, Williamstown is the top seeded team in South Group 5, but the Braves have played one more game than many of the contenders. Don’t be surprised if this game is much closer than the records would indicate.
St. Joseph (5-2) at Timber Creek (2-4), Friday, 7 pm.
St. Joseph is reeling after last week’s 51-0 loss to West Deptford. That came after the school suspended coach Paul Sacco for two weeks due to a well-documented social media post sent by some players. A few players were also suspended from the game. That said, any team with junior running back Jada Byers remains a threat. In seven games for the Wildcats, Byers has rushed for 1,027 yards (8.2 avg.) and 18 TDs. Timber Creek, despite its record, could very well earn a South Group 3 playoff berth. The Chargers have lost three in a row after last week’s 27-14 loss at New Rochelle, NY. Freshman quarterback Donovan Leary saw his most extensive action, completing 11 of 26 for 223 yards. He threw three interceptions, which is part of the growing process, but many expect him to have a strong career. Donovan is the brother of record-setting QB Devin Leary, now a freshman at North Carolina State. Senior Jayvin Little has had a big season for Timber Creek. He has 31 receptions for 730 yards and four touchdowns, while junior Tarheeb Still has 20 receptions for 400 yards and two scores.
